When digging up holes in the ground and structure it with metal, bricks, or stones, you are making a fire pit. The purpose of having is to hold fire but not letting it scatter. These are only required in order to be safe when containing a fire. These can be made by just simply digging up a hole and putting some bricks or rock pillars. Gas grills have its two types and these are the flattops and infrareds. Flattops are like griddles and its element for heating is circular in form. These are the most cheapest and simplest among all kinds. These are made of wire and metal placed on top of pan. Another kind is pelette. Compressed sawdust, water, and vegetable oil are utilized for fueling.

Third is a square type. This is considered as a hybrid of the brazier and kettle. It is just a simple pan like the brazier and heat is adjusted simply. Fifth is hibachi which is traditional to the Japanese people. Hibachi in English means small cooking. It is made out from aluminum or cast iron.

The sixth type is kettle that is used commonly in commercial purposes. This is composed of lower chamber, lid, cooking and charcoal grids, legs, and the venting system. Seventh is cart type which is the same as the the typical grills. It may be in a kettle or rectangular design. This is mounted with cooking and charcoal grids and hinged lid.

Eighth type are barrels which are the most primitive form. Barrels are made from a steel barrel and is half in lengthwise. Another is ceramic cooker that is considered more versatile compared to kettle because it retains heat and moisture more efficiently. These are commonly utilized for smoking, grilling, and barbecuing foods.

Tandoor ovens involve both grilling and oven cooking. The food is being cooked and placed on long skewers and are heated by wood fire which is placed at the bottom of the oven. And lastly is the portable type which can either be be in a brazier or kettle category.

The hybrid type is commonly used for cooking outdoors. The fuels that can be used are either natural gas, charcoal, or propane. It is a combination of wood grill and charcoal techniques.
