In some states practitioners need to obtain special certification and they must renew them yearly to remain valid. In other states, practitioners need to demonstrate skills and knowledge in the field and pass a licensure exam. It is important to know state requirements before training.

One is free to start sending applications for jobs once they are certified and licensed. It is worth knowing that as a nutritionist, there are many work responsibilities one will be charged with. Also, collaborating with other professionals is necessary sometimes. One can work in a hospital, food company, media industry, or anywhere that is involved with food production.

Some of the responsibilities of nutritionists include conducting research in the field of nutrition. Here, they may be part of a team that is engaged in some form of research. Research nutritionists are usually employed in research facilities or academic institutions such as colleges and universities. They may need to recruit volunteers to participate in clinical trials after research.

Nutritionists process and analyze biological samples, raise awareness on benefits of healthy eating, give talks, deliver presentations, gather statistics, and aim healthy eating campaigns at specific groups. They stay abreast with latest research in the field of nutrition so that they can educate people. These professionals also participate in programs that aim at ensuring that people have easy access to healthy foods such as vegetables and fruits.

Weekly work hours that nutritionists work average 37 hours and they do work from Monday to Friday. Among the skills that these workers need include keen interest in eating healthy food, good evaluation skills, excellent communication skills, good people skills, a non-judgmental attitude, and good reporting skills. Dealing with people of various backgrounds is also needed.
